The Old Observatory of Leiden is the oldest extant university observatory in the world. From 1 April 2022, you can visit the Observatory by taking an exclusive tour.

An exclusive tour consists of a half hour guided tour along one of the telescopes and half an hour through the exhibition in the visitor centre. You can reach the Observatory (only) via the Hortus. You can book a time slot here

At the moment you can find the exhibition 'Under our sky' in the visitor centre. This art scientific exhibition shows you the view of artists of South-African and Australian cultures. Through works of art (dot-art painting and wall hangings) inspired by the stories and myths of their ancestors, you will get a new perspective on the familiar night sky.

More information, hours and rates can be found here.
