Hortus botanicus Leiden
A green treasure hidden in the historical centre of Leiden. Founded in 1590, this is the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands and one of the oldest in the world.
There are many plants and trees growing in the garden and greenhouses of the Hortus. Some species are very rare or notable because of their size or they have played a role in the history of the garden and some parts of the garden cannot be missed.
Walk-in tours 425 anniversary in English
Every Thursday in July and August there is an walking tour in English about the history and the crown jewels of the Hortus. It starts at 11 a.m.
