Hortus botanicus Leiden
A green treasure hidden in the historical centre of Leiden. Founded in 1590, this is the oldest botanical garden in the Netherlands and one of the oldest in the world.
Midsummer Night 21 June
On 21 June 2014 we celebrate Midsummer Night in the Hortus to mark the longest day and shortest night. An evening full of performances, music, drinks and more.
There are many plants and trees growing in the garden and greenhouses of the Hortus. Some species are very rare or notable because of their size or they have played a role in the history of the garden and some parts of the garden cannot be missed.
